Apparently studies have shown that music actually decreases productivity, even if you feel more productive. I believe (and they mention) that as programmers if we can find music that puts you in “the zone” then that’s a good thing, otherwise the music just becomes a distraction.

In my old office, many of the individual offices were converted to open plan ones and i believe it actually did decrease productivity. In addition, it increased irritation levels!!
